During this period of time Elvis was threatened with being kidnapped and even killed. The FBI took this threat seriously enough with security being increased over the next few months.

Despite all the glitter and glamour that was Elvis Presley, his personal life was the complete opposite.
Spending so much time on the road and not with his wife, made Priscilla and Elvis distant.
It was reported that he had been unfaithful to Priscilla before they were married and also after.
But he was furious with her behaviour when it was found that she was having an affair with a mutual friend.

The following year Elvis and Priscilla both filed for divorce.
In the same month Elvis performed two concerts for a cancer charity in Hawai.
The show, budgeted at a record $2.5 million, raised $85,000—more than three times what had been anticipated.
Elvis's outfit became the most recognized example of the elaborate concert costumes with which his latter-day persona became closely associated.
As described by "At the end of the show, when he spreads out his American Eagle cape, with the full stretched wings of the eagle studded on the back, he becomes a god figure.
The accompanying album, released in February, went to number one, spending a year on the charts. It proved to be Presley's last U.S. number 1 pop album during his lifetime.

Towards the end of his singing career Elvis was looking grotesque. He was overweight, unable to stand upright his mind was playing tricks on him and he wasn't able to complete shows. All that mattered was to keep the King on his feet and uprighrt.

He was due to fly out for another concert in Memphis on the 16th August 1977. However he was found in his bathroom by his fiancee. Attempts to revive him failed, and death was officially pronounced at 3:30 pm at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Presley had died "at a time when it could only help his reputation", biographer Samuel Roy later stated
