Pen-y-Ghent is one of the three fells in the Yorkshire Dales. At 2773ft it is the smallest of the three peaks.

Access is usually from Horton in Ribblesdale and this forms the start and finish of the hill race.

As you might expect in the dasles‚ there are numerous pot holes and cave systems dotted around in the mountains.

Running along the roof of Pen-y-Ghent is the Pennine Way‚ a long distance footpath‚ whose peak forms on the western edge a watershed for water to drain in to the River Ribble‚ then into the Irish Sea.

While on the eastern side the water supplies Upper Wharfedale‚ Littondale‚ Malhamdale and in turn runs into the river Wharfe‚ Aire and further east to the Humber estuary and finally the north sea.
